(published 8/15/25)
The FAA has recently requested comments on the Air Force proposal to dramatically increase military combat training over rural communities and tribal and public lands in Arizona and New Mexico.
The full notice is available here. Comments are due by Sept. 19.
Feel free to send the same comments that you sent to the Air Force to the FAA for their own review.
Note that the FAA is primarily concerned with safety issues, which could include the risk of fires, the possible safety impacts on the homes and businesses here, noise concerns, etc. This is also an opportunity to talk about your own experiences of nuisance flights, many of which have violated existing FAA rules. (We will be doing in our comments as well. This is part of why nuisance flight reports through our web system are important.)
The FAA is also very interested in the impact on aviation. So if you have knowledge of this, are a pilot, or have connections to aviation organizations, your input is especially important.
If you need ideas for comments, you can look at these.
The FAA will have a key role in the decision about this proposal, which is expected to be decided in 2026.
Don’t forget to copy your comments to our elected officials and to PCS if you’d like to share them with the community.
